Oh Christmas Tree

Every year we like the tradition of buying a real tree. I love the biblical symbolism in a Christmas tree. The bible begins with its own tree lot in a way, with the garden of Eden being filled with trees! Adam and Eve were given the fruit of these trees to eat from, with one being off limits.

The bible teaches us about two trees in particular, the first one being the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the second the tree of life. The first tree was off limits because by eating off it, man would surely die. Adam ate from the first tree and was thrown out of the garden so that he couldn't eat from the second tree, and man would then have to wait until the path to that second tree was re-opened. The biblical story starts with trees, and this time of year we celebrate Jesus' birth because He came and re-opened the path to the second tree when He died on a tree, hanging on the wooden cross. This time of year when I see Christmas Trees, I see an empty cross that will never have to be used because of Jesus' finished work. He paid the ultimate price, one that we could have never paid. He took the curse that was rightfully ours, reconciling us to God. He is the light of the world that has pierced the darkness.

The movie 'Saving Christmas' by Kirk Cameron showed me so much more about the Christmas Story, and how everything we do this time of year is all about Jesus! So if you love Jesus and you love Christmas (or you dislike Christmas because you think everything at Christmas time has nothing to do with the biblical story of Jesus) you need to watch this movie! I watch it every year now, at least once! hehe.

This year we decided to buy a real potted tree! We wanted to plant the tree in the springtime with our new little babe for it to grow as he/she grows. This year we decided to celebrate not only the new life that Jesus brought, but also to celebrate the new life that He gave to us with the gift of a child of our own.

I usually like to get our tree up asap! If not in November, then definetly the first of December. What can I say, its my FAVOURITE holiday. This year however we were on vacation until the first part of December, and decided to wait until we got home and settled to decorate for Christmas. Last week we ventured out to pick up a potted Christmas Tree. I was so excited, until the man told us potted trees can only be indoors for a few days! His words were 'Dig a hole were you want to put it, and bring it inside for a few days; no more than a week - 10 days'. Naturally I was a little disappointed that I could only have my tree up inside for a few days.. I don't know why I thought it would be fine to stick outside again once we were done with it indoors!

Once we got the tree home we left it outside anticipating to bring it in around the 20th of December. Wouldn't you know later that night one of our dogs found the tree to be a nice new tree to pee on!! Oh boy. We hosed it off only to catch him do it again a few days later.. haha

Needless to say. We bought another tree!

A cute little 4.5 foot tree to decorate and keep up inside until the new year. We decided to decorate our potted tree and leave it outside (out of the way of the dogs) and will plant when we are ready.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas this year!!
